The "Latham Open" is the biggest fishing competition along the Tanzanian coast, and takes place every year in the months of September or October, when the Yellowfin Tuna are at their biggest and best.
The competition is hosted and organized by the Dar es Salaam Yacht Club and is sponsored by some of the largest companies in the country. The last few years The Latham Open has been successfully sponsored by Vodacom and we hope they will continue to be our sponsor for the future.

This year our main sponsor will be Vodacom again and our supporting sponsor will be TBL.

This event was named "Latham Open" to allow anglers from any country and non members of the club to participate in our biggest annual event. The competition increasingly attracts international attention with many anglers coming from abroad, including our neighboring Kenyan charter boats.

The run up to the weekend (Thursday evening) hosts a Fishermen's brief to be attended by all entries followed by a Happy Hour and a Boat Auction which is open to all participants and spectators.

Latham Island is 42 nautical miles from Dar es Salaam Yacht Club. To make the event more accessible to the smaller vessels the venue will be Sinda Island which is 10 nautical miles closer, and on route to Latham.

Sinda Island involves an enormous logistical operation, which is basically a recreation of a "mini" Dar es Salaam Yacht Club on the Island: dinghy service, tables, tents, generators, lights, music, cold drinks, weighing station, grills, food, ice, fuel, security, transport, spectator boats, and a lot more... .... are all organized and presented by a group of volunteers from the DYC Committee and the DYC Fishing Section in collaboration with our main sponsor Vodacom.

THANK YOU all, for your exceptional work!!!!
THANK YOU VODACOM for making this possible!!!
